Cat Roberts
Watercolor Artist
Cat has lived in the high country of central Colorado for 30 years and when she decided her skiing days were over, she searched for something to fill those long winters. When she picked up a brush and painted her first watercolor, it was love at first try! Art was always a favorite subject in school and having a family friend that is a renowned watercolor artist was the inspiration she needed to try it for herself. After retiring from the business world in 2003, she has seriously focused her energies on her art.
Mostly self-taught, Cat has taken a few watercolor workshops at Colorado Mountain College over the years and in March, 2006, she attended a week long landscape painting class at the Scottsdale Art School in Arizona. As well as expanding her horizons, and exposing her to many new styles and processes, that particular class changed how she thinks about the science of painting with pigment, paper and water. In 2008, she attended a mixed-media class at the Venice Art Center in Florida that exposed her to mixing paint mediums, which took her on a new journey creating abstract watercolors.
Her style always includes the vibrant colors of the summer wildflowers, brilliant blue skies of the high country and the wildness that is Colorado! Depending on her mood, she can paint tight and detailed or loose and fast, always bringing a sense of joy and happiness to her images.
Like most artists, her painting style continues to evolve. She is continually inspired by her frequent travels to art galleries and trips around the west as well as experimentation with new subjects. And living in Colorado will always be her main inspiration!
